Scoring

Both games map a perceptual distance to a 0–10 score per round.

Color: ΔE2000

ΔE2000 is the CIE color-difference formula that best tracks how humans perceive small color differences. We convert each HSB swatch to CIELAB, run ΔE2000, then clamp to a 0–30 range: 0 maps to a 10, 30+ maps to 0. The emoji string maps green/yellow/orange/red/black at ΔE thresholds 3 / 6 / 10 / 15.

Sound: cents

A cent is 1/1200th of an octave. We compute the absolute cents distance between target and your guess, then clamp to 0–600 (one tritone): 0 maps to a 10, 600+ maps to 0. Octave mode multiplies the answer key by 0.5 or 2 before grading.
